Construction of the Iceberg Skating Palace began in September 2009. Since then, as many as 1,000 workers have used 15,000 tons of metal, 600 tons of glass and 500 tons of bolts to erect the 12,000-seat pre-fabricated structure at the heart of the Sochi 2014 Olympic Park Coastal Cluster.

During the Olympic Games, the Iceberg Skating palace will stage the short track and figure skating competitions. The ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final and the ISU World Cup Short Track Stage were international test events at the venue.

“It is an honor for the Iceberg Skating Palace to be hosting a tournament of the status of the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final,” said Dmitry Chernyshenko, Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee President and CEO. “The world’s best figure skaters have come to Sochi to take part in the final stage of the Grand Prix series. Our ultra-modern ice palace, located right in the heart of the Olympic Park, will be the perfect backdrop for inspirational performances and brilliant victories.”

After the Sochi 2014 Olympics, the Iceberg Skating Palace could be dismantled and transported as a skating center to a different city.
